Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram on Wednesday emphasised that the Chilika lake be part of the Swachchh Bharat Abhiyan called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to fulfill Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of ‘Clean India’.
Oram said this while inaugurating the Chilika Boita Bandan Festival on the bank of the lake at Balugaon. The festival was organised jointly by local BJP and BJD activists in-collaboration with the local administration.
Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathy, Prof Prativa Maharathy, MP Pinaki Mishra, local MlA Bibhuti Bhusan Harichandan, district Collector Niranjan Sahu, SP Dillip Kumar Dash and former MlA Raghunath Sahu spoke on the historic glory of the lake.
On Thursday morning, a programme was organised to mark the historic marine trade of the then Kalinga. Some Sadhaba Badhus (wives of traders) welcomed Sadhabs (traders) when they returned from business in a symbolic way.
