Women Congress workers led by district Women Congress president Sarita Agrawal took out a procession here on Wednesday from Beheramal Chhak to the district Collectorate, demanding prohibition of alcohol in the district.
The group also claimed that the increasing alcohol consumption in the district has led to more road accidents. The crime graph has also been on the rise, they added.
Women Congress leaders had previously also spoken to the authorities about the issue, but the latter are yet to take any action on it, the members said.
“The apathy of the administration has forced us to come to the street,” they added.
State Women Congress general secretary Swarnalata Behera, working president Neelam Gupta and other party workers submitted a memorandum to district Collector BB Patnaik.
