JSPl urges Govt to break stevedores' monopoly

PNS

The Jindal Steel and Power limited (JSPl) on Friday requested that the Government to intervene and break ‘the monopoly in stevedoring in the Paradip Port premises to make it more business friendly’.

“The halt in operation of the Paradip Port on account of stevedores strike, their non-cooperation with the administration to come for a peaceful dialogue, the rally and sponsored  protests  are signs of desperation of the monopoly practitioners in stevedoring in the Paradip Port,” said JSPl ED Manish Kharbanda in a statement.

Stating that the Port authorities initiative to curb monopoly practices has shaken individuals who are aggressively against competition and fair play.

“Such blockades and protests have been adversely impacting the economy of Odisha when the end use plants are starving of raw materials. The strike in the Port premises has also impacted livelihoods of

people,” he pointed out, adding, “We are quite hopeful that the Government will certainly intervene to break the monopoly in stevedoring to ensure fair play, making it more business friendly.”
