JSPl pipeline survey work protested

Residents of Chhendipada block’s Kankarei village on Saturday halted the Jindal Steel and Power limited’s pipeline survey work, demanding land acquisition through the Mahanadi Coalfields limited. As a result, the pipeline laying work has been delayed further for its 6-mtpa capacity steel plant here.

According to information, the district administration and JSPl officials went to Kankarei village on Saturday in order to demarcate the land, earlier identified for laying of pipeline. Being informed about the official’s presence, the villagers gathered and protested the work. They demanded that the land should be acquired through legal process by MCl and they be given adequate compensation for them.

It may be noted that the JSPl project needs spreading of 28.8-km-long cross country pipeline, including 3.16 km in Kankarei, from Samal barrage to the plant for water supply.
