Joint cropping initiative fails in Jharsuguda

PNS

A drought-like situation is imminent in the district here and farmers are doubtful whether their areas will be declared as drought-affected by the Government or not.

Meanwhile, joint crop cutting is initiated in the district under the direct supervision of both Agriculture and Revenue Departments.

The joint crop cutting report and statistical report have been scheduled to be submitted soon.

Crop cutting is being done in 336 revenue villages and less production was noticed in most of the villages as against the target of the production set by the Government, sources said.

This year, each revenue village has been taken as a unit for drought declaration by the Government. On the other hand, the farmers have been advised to inform any irregularities noticed in joint crop cutting to the Government. A high-level committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Sub-Collectorwith Deputy Director Agriculture, Assistant Director Horticulture and Assistant Director Planning as members.

The committee has been empowered to take immediate action on the complaints received from the farmers.
