Contractual workers of the closed Orient Paper Mills (OPM) of Brajrajnagar staged a dharna in front of the district Collectorate for the second day on Wednesday.
All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) State secretary Anitnit Chakraborty said the mill, which was closed in 1999, has left 5,000 workers unemployed and more than 3,000 contractual workers are yet to get their arrear of wages, bonus and other financial benefits.
Even after repeated requests, the district administration has not exerted any pressure on the mill management to restart it, he added. The administration has not yet taken any step to meet the demands of the agitators.
