While police are yet to reveal the details in connection with the sensational case of death of Rama Devi Women’s University student Jharaphula Nayak, her father Ramakant Nayak has threatened to set himself on fire in front of the State Assembly here.Ramakant has blamed the Jajpur police for their alleged tardy progress in the investigation into the case.
Ramakant said the Twin City Commissionerate police managed to crack the case of recovery of a woman’s headless body in Bhubaneswar within seven days while the Jajpur police are yet to make any major headway in the Jharaphula death case despite the arrest of the accused, seizure of the scooter used for carrying the body, recovery of CCTV footage and other related evidences.
Notably, on January 26, accused Rakesh Swain and Jharaphula had come to the OYO Shiv Sai Guest House at Dharma Vihar in Bhubaneswar and stayed in room no. 201 of the hotel. Rakesh, said to be Jharaphula’s boyfriend, found her in an unconscious state at the hotel room in the morning of January 27. He then called up his friend Shekhar. While Shekhar drove the scooter, Rakesh rode pillion making the unconscious girl sit between them. Rakesh initially intended to hospitalise Jharaphula at SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack. He realised midway that Jharaphula had died. He and Shekhar went all the way to Jajpur by the two-wheeler and dumped the body on roadside at Mulapala under the Kuakhia police limits.
