Doctors of the Sub-Divisional Hospital, Jeypore on Thursday demanded that they be provided with 24-hour security as they are often being subjected to public attacks.
“Some locals have been unnecessarily harassing doctors on duty and even beating them without reasons,” said Jeypore SDMO DB Tripathy at a Press meet here. He said he would soon submit a memorandum to the Koraput district Collector demanding for a 24-hour security system at the hospital. Tripathy said doctors are doing their best to serve local patients with available infrastructure and manpower but locals often create nuisance alleging negligence in treatments. “A total of four cases of attacks on doctors happened in July. The doctors have now felt insecurity in the hospital premises,” said Tripathy
In the last incident happened in three days back, Assistant Surgeon Manas Ranjan Mohalik was beaten up by some locals after the death of a patient. The doctor has filed an FIR against the attackers, the SDMO informed.
