Robbers made off with all the gold ornaments of the deity of the Mangala Mandir situated at Jhanjirimangala Square here late on Sunday night.

The unidentified miscreants broke the temple door and decamped with the jewellery.

The ornaments worth lakhs of rupees were found missing when the temple priest came to perform morning rituals on Monday.

“When I came at 4:40 am to 5 am, I found the lock was broken and ornaments were looted. They have taken more than a kg of silver and nearly 30 grams of gold,” said the priest. An FIR was filed at the Badambari police station, and police started investigation into the crime.

“We are conducting initial investigations on the robbery. A forensic team and sniffer dogs have been called in for uncovering various links to the crime,” a senior police officer told media.
