A jewellery shop owner and his staff were looted and stabbed to death by some unidentified miscreants on Friday night near Pritipur Bazaar under the Binjharapur police limits in Jajpur district.
The deceased were identified as Khageswar Rana (55), the shop owner, and Chaitanya Sahoo (34), the staff.
Sources said the duo was looted and killed while they were on their way to their Kalyanpur village by a motorcycle with the gold ornaments after closing the shop at Pritipur Bazaar.
Jajpur SP Charan Singh Mina said the attackers fled with the jewellery and cash after killing both. They were rushed to the Binjharapur Community Health Centre (CHC), where doctors declared them brought dead. Mina also said, “We have formed a team to nab all the assailants.”
Meanwhile, many agitated villagers on Saturday held a road blockade at Balamukuli Chhack on the Binjharapur-Singhpur State Highway by placing the dead bodies. They demanded immediate arrest of the killers. The police rushed to the spot and pacified the locals.
