The Vigilance police on Wednesday arrested Jatni Municipality Executive Officer (EO) Lailta Kapoor while she was accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000.
Kapoor had demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 from one Bhikhyakari Sahu for sanctioning the latter’s pending gratuity amount.
Reportedly, Sahu superannuated from his municipality job three years ago, but his gratuity amount of Rs 4 lakh was pending for which Sahu was running from pillar to post.
However, Sahu reported the matter to the Vigilance police in Khordha and, accordingly, a trap was laid to nab Kapoor. As per the direction of the Vigilance, Sahu went to the office with the money and Kapoor was caught while accepting the bribe. The accused was arrested and forwarded to court, said Vigilance DSP Akshay Kumar Mishra.
Later, the Vigilance police conducted simultaneous raids at Kapoor’s office and residence.
