The Postmaster of Nachipura village Post office in Jajpur district has allegedly embezzled about Rs10 lakh deposited in a number of savings accounts.
The misappropriation came to the fore recently after some depositors found that their saving accounts recorded less balance than their passbooks.The Postmaster doesn’t show the deposited amounts in the ledger books but makes entries in the passbooks, according to the depositors.“I checked the ledgers and other documents in the Post office on Tuesday and found that Postmaster Artabandhu Behera misappropriated huge amounts from the Post office,” Jajpur Road Postal Inspector Biswajit Kar said, adding that all the depositors will get back their deposited money soon.Meanwhile, the Postmaster has managed to flee from the area as villagers approached him for return of money.
