Three persons were arrested on Thursday for brutally assaulting a married woman at village Tejapur under the Panikoili police station in Jajpur district.
The arrestees were identified as the woman’s mother-in-law Sabitri Swain (60), father-in-law Kalandi Swain (62) and brother-in-law Mahendra Swain (32).
Sarojini Swain (30) had been allegedly tortured by her in-laws over dowry demands. On Wednesday evening, when villagers saw the trio assaulting Sarojini, they rescued her and assaulted and paraded the accused.
Sarojini in her complaint alleged that her in-laws assaulted her when her husband Jayaram Swain was not in the house.
“After investigation, we arrested all the accused under Section 307, 498-A of IPC. We are investigating the case. All the three accused persons were produced in the court at Jajpur Road on the day. The court rejected their bail applications and remanded them to judicial custody, said Jajpur Road SDPO Chinmay Nayak.
