The Jagannath Temple of Puri is likely to have a Vigilance Officer soon to ensure that the donations go to the temple administration and nobody else.
The Justice Bimal Prasad Das Commission of Inquiry appointed by the State Government to bring in reforms into the functioning of the temple on Wednesday hinted at suggesting appointment of a Vigilance Officer at the 12th-century shrine.
“Appointment of a Vigilance Officer at the Jagannath Temple is a recommendable aspect. Donations should go directly to the temple administration,” said Justice Das.
Justice Das, after visiting the Tirupati Temple in Andhra Pradesh to study its management, security aspects and servitors’ appointment process and their role, told reporters here that the traditions of the Jagannath Temple would be retained but at the same time reforms would be carried out.
The commission is scheduled to submit its interim report to the Government before the Rath Yatra this year.
