While Income Tax officials on Tuesday began probing into the reported recovery of huge cash from the arrested Dhalsamant brothers, the Commissionerate Police on the day continued their exercise gathering evidence against them in connection with the alleged kidnap and murder of two city youths in 2013.

In a tactical move the executive committee of Cuttack Nagar Yuvak Sangha, the youth organisation formed and headed by younger brother Sushil Dhalsamant, was dismantled on the day by its executive body.

“Since our president Sri Sushil Kumar Dhalsamant is unable to guide us now for extraneous reasons, we have decided to suspend our activities for the time being after dismantling the executive body,” said its organising secretary Ratan Sinha on Tuesday.

He, however, did not elaborate as to when the body would be revived.

In another development, father of the arrested brothers, Saroj Kumar Dhalsamant, reacted for the first time on the day after his sons were taken into custody on Friday. Speaking to the media here, he echoed the feelings of his younger son saying there was a political undertone behind the arrests.

The senior Dhalsamant also made a revealing statement that after conducting raids in his house on Friday, police asked him to sign on a blank paper.

“When I asked as to what is this for, they retorted saying to sign it as some cash have been recovered from the house,” he said, adding that the police did not say at that time that they had also recovered arms and ammunition from the house.

“Ever since Sushil was released from jail in 2012, everything was okay until January 9 this year, when he organised a mega blood donation camp in which over 3000 units of blood were collected.

Senior leaders of all the three major political parties (BJD, Congress and BJP) of the city were having good relationships with my son,” the senior Dhalsamant, a retired police officer, said, adding social service and popularity ushered trouble for the

brothers.
