Concerned over the alleged assault on Italy-born Odissi dancer Ileana Citaristi by Srimandir servitors atop chariot of lord Jagannath on Sunday last, the Consul General of Italy in Kolkata on Monday evening talked to her and enquired about the incident.
“After knowing about the incident, the Consul General called me up on Monday evening. My friends and relatives in India, Italy and other parts of the globe have also been calling me to know what had happened with me and categorically asked if I was physically assaulted,” the Odissi dancer said.
The Consulate General also spoke to senior officers in the Home Department and police officers at Puri to give justice to Citaristi, sources said.
Puri SP Anup Kumar Sahoo said two CCTVs were installed in front of the chariots to keep vigil on the activities going around and we are examining the CCTV footage. “We have identified one of the accused and will arrest him soon," said Sahoo.
