Iskcon coming up with largest Vedic shrine

PNS

The International Society of Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon) has undertaken its largest construction project ever, the Chandrodaya Mandir, said to be the world’s largest Vedic temple, in the neighbouring West Bengal.

The first phase of the construction is already over. The temple is being built in Shridham Mayapur, which is the birthplace of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. The shrine was foretold by many Vaishnav saints and will soon become a reality through the devotional effort of the Iskcon. First prophesized 500 years ago by lord Nityananda, the most intimate associate of Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, the temple will not only be a place for worshiping lord Krishna, but will also place India as a centre of Vedic knowledge, culture and science in world map.

Educating visitors about the Vedic way of life and science of the universe according to the ancient Vedic scriptures, the Chandrodaya Mandir will strive to be a beacon of spirituality and universal brotherhood. The mission of the project is to be a centre of spiritual celebration, education, culture, and community for all people, regardless of cast, creed, religion or gender.

On its completion, the astounding temple will rise more than 300-foot taller than Hagia Sophia in Istanbul (Turkey). The temple’s dome diameter and floor space will be larger than that of St Paul’s Cathedral in london and have sophisticated acoustics and beautifully decorated interiors. The temple will also boast a state-of-the-art 75-foot domed planetarium theatre.
