The Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) would stage demonstrations in front of all district Collectors’ offices in the State on June 6 in demand of solution to the problems faced by workers.
The decision was taken at an executive committee meeting of the INTUC, State branch held here on Sunday under the chairmanship of branch president and former MP Rama Chandra Khuntia.
The body demanded execution of the Centre’s announcement to provide a minimum `10,000 monthly wage to contract workers. “The State Government has neglected around 1.5 crore unorganised workers in the State by not implementing the Centre’s law on social security for unorganised workers that was enacted by the UPA Government back in 2008,” rued Khuntia. The other demands include immediate payment of all arrears of construction workers, provision of ID cards and all facilities to unorgansied workers at par with construction workers and provision of work under the MNREGA to workers migrating to other States and use of Odia language in all Government offices.
It was also decided at the meeting to organise agriculture workers, forest workers, Anganwadi, ASHA and MDM workers.
