PNS

The Binjharpur police on Saturday night busted an inter-district theft racket and arrested two persons, the kingpin and a woman, for allegedly committing as many as 20 thefts in the Binjharpur and Kendrapara Town police limits.

The arrested have been identified as kingpin Mitu alias Sk Mustaque (24), a resident of Adakhanda under the Binjharpur PS and Kanchan Mallick. The police seized

Rs  27,645, gold and silver ornaments, new costly sarees and mobile phones from their possession. The two along with their other associates had stolen these items from the house of one Praffula sahu of Balagandi a couple of days back.

Earlier, the Kendrapada Town police had raided the gang of seven persons, including Sk Mustaque and six others, while they were hatching a dacoity at the Ideal Pubic School here. The police had arrested three of them while four others, including Sk Mustaque, managed to flee from the spot. The three arrested were Somanath Mallick of Binjharpur, Narayan Dutt of Dhamnagar and Muna Mian of Badahat.

During the interrogation, the arrested told the police that Sk Mustaque was their leader. The Kendrapara Town police then took help of their Binjharpur counterparts and held Sk Mustaque. Sk Mustaque then informed about Somanath Mallick’s wife Kanchan Mallick’s involvement in the theft. Then, the police arrested Kanchan mallick.

Sk Mustaque and Kanchan were produced before the SDJM court here and were remanded to jail custody as their bail pleas were rejected, said Ajay Kumar Mohanty, a police officer.
