'Include children's issues in manifestos'

PNS

Keeping in view the growing child rights violation cases in the State and country, advocates for children in the age group of 0-14 on Wednesday demanded inclusion of their rights relating to education, health, nutrition, protection, participation and in the event of disaster in accordance with the UN Convention on Rights of the Children (UNCRC) in the election manifestos of all political parties.

While sharing their views with mediapersons here at an interface on ‘Social exclusion and children’s manifesto’ being organised by the Centre for Child and Women Development (CCWD), the children of Sisu Mahasangha, a children’s body set by the CCWD taking urban children from 21 villages of nine slums of Bhubaneswar, urged the political parties to lay emphasis on their issues in their manifestos.

They have been demanding a ban on child labour up to 14 years age in line with RTE through enactment of regulatory legislature, non-exclusion and non-discrimination of children on the basis of cast, class, gender or ability in schools, ensuring a 25-er cent reservation as per RTE-2009 to BPl category children and proper implementation of RTE, opening of Anganwadi centres at each village for proper implementation of protection rights of children.

Usarani Patra, Madhusmita Mallick, Pradip Behera and Sangita Das of Sisu Mahasangha shared their views with the medipersons.
