Tension prevailed in the Bhanjanagar area in Ganjam district on Friday when locals opposed a drive against illegal ganja plantations by Excise Department and police officials in the region.
According to sources, the Dharakote and the Badagada police reached Khajuripada area in Bhanjanagar to destroy a cultivation of ganja spread over 40 acres of land. During the raid, the locals opposed the move of the police tooth and nail and gheraoed the officials.
Following this, tension erupted in the locality. Taking note of it, five platoons of police force deployed in the area to maintain law and order. Besides, the Aska SDPO and Ganjam DSP are also present at the spot to review the arrangements.
