Baleswar DM checks vehicles on road
Baleswar: District Collector Ramesh Chandra Rout on Thursday made surprise checks of the vehicles with the help of traffic police near Fakir Mohan Golai. Fines to the tune of Rs 25,000 were recovered from those who violated traffic rules including driving without licences and helmets and rash driving. E-challans for 18 vehicles were made. Five driving licences were impounded. Regional Transport Officer Bikash Chaudhary, Traffic Sub-Inspector Prasant Ransing were present during the checks.
JSpur BJD celebrates party foundation day
Jagatsinghpur: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Jagatsinghpur unit celebrated the party’s 21st foundation day here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of BJD district VP Dipti Das. State Planning Board Deputy Chairman and BJD district president Bishnu Das attended as chief guest and spoke on the occasion. Dr Praffulla Nayak, BJD leaders Kanaka Prabha Lenka, Minati Das, Amarendra Das, Rajkishor Khatua, Madhusudan Sahoo and lingaraj Swain also spoke. Earlier, the guests paid floral tributes to the Biju Patnaik statue at Thana Chhak.
BJD foundation day observed at P’khemundi
Paralakhemundi: Gajapati BJD leaders and workers observed the party’s foundation day here on Wednesday. The celebrations began with garlanding of a statue of Biju Patnaik. A public meeting held on the occasion was presided over by BJD district president Pradeep Nayak. Brahmapur MP Sidhanta Mohapatra, State Planning Board Member Ram Chandra Panda, former Union Minister Chandrashekar Sahu, former MLA K Narayan Rao and former Paralakhemundi Municipality Chairmen P Krishna and Nrusingha Charana Patnaik were present. The leaders highlighted the various welfare programmes undertaken by the Naveen Patnaik Government.
Vajpayee birth anniv celebrated in Paradip
Paradip: The Atal Bihari Vajpayee Trust celebrated the 94th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee here on Tuesday. MLA Pradip Purohit, BJP spokesperson Pitambar Acharya, BJYM president Sampad Kumar Swain and Paradip Mahotsav coordinator Manas Ranjan Swain attended as guests. The guests inaugurated the Paradip Mahotsav at the Jayadev Sadan ground. The fest would continue till December 30. They also unveiled the trust’s souvenir “Prajna Purush”. Among others, trust chairman Ajit Kumar Das and secretary Arun Kumar Swain were present.
Man held for kidnapping minor in JSpur
Jagatsinghpur: The Raghunathpur police on Wednesday arrested one Gyanaranjan Das of Ambadarada village for kidnapping a minor girl. Sources said the accused, father of two children, had kidnapped the girl on December 12. Acting on the victim’s parents’ FIR, police had launched a manhunt to nab the accused. Earlier, the victim’s medical examination was conducted.
