The Baleswar police arrested a 22-year-old imposter for extorting money from people by threatening them and forwarded him to court on Saturday.
Accused Ashok Kumar Das, a resident of Kendupali village under the Ranapur police station in Nayagarh district, was caught by the police from the Baleswar bus stand while he was trying to extort money from a bus owner by impersonating himself as an officer of the Central Intelligence Bureau (CIB). Being suspicious of Das’s behavior, the bus owner informed to the Sahadevkhunta police, following which he was arrested.
The police seized a fake identity card of CIB, other incriminating documents, fake appointment and caste certificate letters from his bag.
Sahadevkhunta police station investigating officer Abhimany Das said, “The accused is a member of a fraud racket running in the State. We are trying to take him on remand to crack his racket and catch the mastermind.”
