The Regional Office of the Indian Metrological Department (IMD) here on Sunday forecasted that many parts of the State are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rains for the next three days under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over Gangetic West Bengal.
Under the influence of the synoptic systems, rains or thundershowers are likely to occur at most places in the districts of north Odisha and many places in the districts of south Odisha during in next 24 hours. Similar rainfall is likely to continue up to Wednesday, the weather office predicted.
Due to the synoptic systems, extremely heavy rainfall (21 cm or more) at one or two places is likely to occur in the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Baleswar with heavy to very heavy rains at one or two places in the districts of Bhadrak, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Bargarh and Subarnapur during next 24 hours. A similar heavy rainfall trend is likely to continue up to Wednesday in above districts, the weather office said.
However, intermittent rainfall with one or two spells of heavy rains are likely to continue in the coastal districts of Khordha, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh, Cuttack and Puri during next 24 hours and to continue up to Tuesday.
Fishermen were also advised to be cautious while venturing into sea along and off the Odisha coast as sea condition is likely to be moderate to rough due to a southwesterly wind flow with speed reaching 40-45 kmph gusting 55 kmph, the IMD said.
Meanwhile, State Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi on Sunday asked the district Collectors of Keonjhar, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Baleswar, Mayurbhanj and Sundargarh to remain alert for floods.
