Images of gods on sachets banned

The Nabchetana Sangha of Rajgangpur has expressed its happiness over a recent directive from the Centre to the State Government to take appropriate steps against use of images of gods and goddesses on the sachets of various products by manufacturers.

The Sangha had carried out a sustained crusade against the practice and written letters to the State Chief Minister and the district administration, apart from manufacturers of different products like oil, rice, spices and incense sticks who put pictures of gods and goddesses on the packet of products.

It had requested them to refrain from the practice since the users throw the packets into dustbin and drains, hurting the religious sentiments of the Hindus. A delegation of the Sangha had also met former Governor of Odisha MC Bhandare and had requested him for intervention so that proper steps were taken to dissuade manufacturers from following the practice.

In September this year, the Sangha had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh about this and had demanded before them through the letter to look into this issue, so that there must be ban on it.

Taking action against the letter, recently Union Home Deputy Secretary AK Nigam has written to State Chief Secretary GC Pati asking him to look into this issue and take proper action in this regard. Pati was also asked to send of a copy of the letter to the Sangha.

“We have been fighting for this for the last eight years. We are now happy that the Union Home Ministry has asked the State Government for proper steps,” said Sangha president Basant Sharma.
