In a crackdown against bootleggers, Excise officials along with the Airfield police on Tuesday conducted a raid at Nua Sahi in the Sundarpada area and seized over 16 litre of illicit liquor.
The officials also arrested a 26-year-old youth in this connection.The accused identified as Mitu Sahu, son of one Sudarshan Sahu of Nua SahiA case was at Airfield police station under Sections 269and 270 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 52(a) of Odisha Excise Act and 3 of Epidemic Diseases Act. Further investigation is underway, said police.Locals alleged that the seizure is only tip of the iceberg. After shifting of the IMFL shop from the Sundarpada market, liquor is being openly sold in the market by bootleggers. But the local police and excise officials turn a blind eye to it for reasons known to them.
