Activist Debashisha Hota filed a complaint with the NHRC over the illegal displacement of villagers under Bhusal panchayat of Bhuban block in Dhenkanal district for a mining project.
Hota leading hundreds of people likely to be displaced by the project drew the attention of the apex rights body about how the Damsal canal was daaged for construction of a road to the illegal mining project at Asurabandha in Bhuban tehsil and sought appropriate action.
Notably, on May 12, more than 1,000 farmers had gheraoed Kamakhyanagar Sub Collector Office protesting illegal mining in the locality after which the project has been stalled for the time being. Earlier, Hota had informed Collector Bhupinder Singh Punia and SP Basanta Kumar Panigrahi regarding the illegal mining.
