The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Sambalpur, would be shifted to its new temporary campus at the Sambalpur University by January 2018 from the present premises of a privately-owned institution.

This decision was taken at a meeting of the IIM Sambalpur Board of Governors (BoG) meeting held in Mumbai on Tuesday. The meeting was presided over by State Bank of India Chairman Arundhati Bhattacharya, who is the IIM Sambalpur BoG head.

Odisha Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi along with Skill Development and Technical Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh and senior officials from the Union Ministries of Human Resource Development and Finance were also present at the meeting. IIM Sambalpur Director MP Jaiswal gave out details on the institution at the meeting.

For last two years, the IIM Sambalpur is running from its temporary campus of the Silicon Institute of Technology (SIT). The decision of shifting the IIM to the Sambalpur University campus would facilitate investment for its upgradation and renovations in a Government building, said sources.

A sum of Rs 79 crore has been sanctioned for the new campus. The newly-constructed academic building and hostels in the Sambalpur University campus would be suitable for the IIM to run its new temporary campus, the BoG decided.

The IIM Sambalpur and the Sambalpur University would soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for this purpose, which has been approved by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, said sources.

The IIM, Sambalpur has decided to enhance its annual student intake from 60 to 120, which would be much easier with the new academic block, two hostels and an auditorium, said the sources.

The BoG also decided to recruit more faculty members as per the requirement, for which the IIM Director has already started the process, the sources added.
