Idco wakes up after industry land scam row

PNS

Two days after the Opposition stalled the Assembly proceedings alleging misuse of land provided by the State-run Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Idco) to industrial houses, the State PSU has asked its divisional heads to take strong action against the industrial units which misused Government land.

The divisional chiefs have been directed to take immediate action against the units which have misutilised the land and sheds for non-industrial activities like cement godowns, fertiliser godowns, etc., without prior approval of the corporation, sources said.

“In the above cases, the (land) allotment should be cancelled after issue of show-cause notices in a time-bound manner. If necessary, you may take steps for disconnection of power supply and water supply to such units to restrain the promoters from misutilisation of the lands and sheds,” the Idco authorities wrote to the divisional heads on Saturday.

The Idco has 10 divisional offices across the State. The matter of non-utilisation of lands would be discussed in detail at a review meeting of the divisional heads to be held in the first week of August, the sources added.

The Nodal land Acquisition Agency of the State Government has also asked the officials to submit details of the misutilisation cases with action-taken reports against them.

Refuting the allegations, Industries Minister Debi Prasad Mishra had replied in the Assembly that the Government has initiated measures against those companies which have not set up industries after beig allotted lands. While show-cause notices have been issued to 1,260 companies, allotments of land against 313 industries have been cancelled, the Minister had informed the House.
