The Marshaghai police on Tuesday detained husband and father-in-law of a deceased woman for torturing and killing her for dowry. According to Marsaghai police station IIC Sukant Kumar Patra, Jyotsnarani Swain (27), wife of Mahendra Swain of Mahanagala village under Marshaghai police limits, was found dead. The deceased woman’s brother Samir Rout, a resident of Nuagaon village, lodged an FIR alleging that his sister was killed for more dowry and the in-laws, including the husband of his sister allegedly tortured her.
Notably, Jyotsnarani was married to Mahendra six years back. Acting on the FIR, the police registered a case under Section 302,304(b), 498(a), 34 IPC, 4 DP Act and later seized the body of Jyotsnarani, who is a mother of two girl children. The police detained Mahendra and his father for further inquiry in the case.
