Slum kid serious by coming in contact with electric wire

Humara Bachpan Child Club members from the Panda Park Slum met city Mayor Anant Narayan Jena and submitted a charter of demands at his office here on Sunday.

This step was taken following an accident at the slum in Niladri Vihar where 12-year-old child Budhiram Behera was seriously injured after coming in contact with an electric wire while he was playing on the roof of his house. The child was immediately rushed to the KIIMS Hospital. Meeting the Mayor, the club members demanded that the hanging wires be immediately removed or covered with electric proof material. Besides, the transformers should be encircled by a boundary in order to avoid contact with children, informed child leader Asutosh Nayak, who has also sought medical expenses for the injured child from the CM’s Relief Fund. They also demanded for proper playgrounds in the slums to ensure availability of adequate space for recreational purposes of the children. While speaking to the Mayor, child advocate Biswajit Sahu said “Earlier, I have pressed for the sustainable inclusion of child adaptability components in slums so that better living spaces can be created for children,” Besides, child participation should be included in the implementation of Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) and all issues should also be solved for better living conditions of children living in the slum areas, added Sahu.
