PNS

Due to cyclone Hudhud, about a lakh of population living in 14 blocks and two municipalities were affected in Koraput district. More than 50,000 people were shifted to temporary cyclonic centres.

As there was heavy rain coupled with a gale wind blowing at a speed of 100-120 kmph, many trees were blown off which chocked the road to Vishakhapatnam from Koraput.

Pottangi remained the worst-affected block in Koraput district as it is close to Andhra. Over 20 large trees fell on the NH passing through the area while 20 houses collapsed and more than 50 houses were badly damaged.

In the entire Koraput district, over 500 electric poles were uprooted and 1,000 houses collapsed. About 1,000 trees too fell on roads. Other blocks like Semiliguda, Sunabeda, lamtaput, Nandapur and Narayanpatna were worst affected.

Till Monday electricity had not been restored in half of Koraput. As per the Southco SDO it will take a couple of days to restore normal supply of power as a lot of electric poles had been uprooted and wires had snapped at many places.

Pottangi recorded the highest rainfall of 213.2mm in the district. There were no reports of causality.
