Housing scam: Dharna held against B'pur Corporator

PNS

A dharna was held in the premises of the Brahmapur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) office here on Wednesday demanding the resignation of a local Corporator.

The agitators alleged that the local Corporator  reportedly played a key role in deleting the name of some of the deserved candidates from the list of  beneficiaries of the Rajiv Awash Yojana (RAY) under which houses for the BPl holders have been constructed under Dhoba Bandh Huda Rajiv Awash Yojana under Ward -3.

They called off the dharana reportedly after getting assurance from the BeMC authorities to probe into the matter, sources said.

According to information available, the Brahmapur Tehsildar has already started an investigation into the allegations of depriving deserving beneficiaries from the list. After thorough investigation of the property list of 13 beneficiaries by the Tehsildar, appropriate action will be initiated against the erring officials, said the BeMC Commissioner Chakravarty Singh Rathore.

On the other hand, Corporator Ashok Shukla  has welcomed the probe. Shukla said that none of the complainants belongs to Ward no.3. Only those persons who were residing in that area during a survey carried out in 2011 have been recommended to get the benefit of a house under RAY scheme.

“None of my relatives name has been included in the list of beneficiaries,” he said, adding that the allegations were totally baseless.

According to an insider who did not wish to be identified, it is not the only case, there are several Corporators who have compromised principles to satisfy their vested interests in such allocations.
