The indefinite dharna by the BSc (Home Science) students of the OUAT here entered the fifth day on Saturday. The students, who have been on the day and night dharna in front of the State Assembly demand BSc (Home Sc) as the minimum qualification for the post of Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS).
According to a student, lila lalantika Debi, they are left on the roadside after their college authorities declared sine die in their hostel. “If the students are appointed under the various schemes for women and child development, the projects will run more affectively,” said Debi, adding, “The students are not getting employment opportunity even after completion of their four-year technical course.”
Earlier, the students had staged a rally on March 14, a three-day dharna at the lower PMG and a two-week-long dharna in front of their college to ventilate their demands. As there as no response from the authorities, they have again resorted to the present phase of the dharna.
