No one can see the future without recalling history. It only history that shows path for the generation to come, said Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday while speaking on the occasion of Parakram Diwas celebration on the birth anniversary of Veer Surendra Sai and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, organised by the Indian Institute of Management Sambalpur (IIM-S) in association with the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR), New Delhi.
The need of the hour is rigorous research and documentation and also inclusion in the curriculum, said Pradhan.
The Minister further said, the resistance against the British started in Odisha much before the first war of independence i. e, Sepoy mutiny that is written in history. But Odisha's real history is still unknown to nation, he lamented.
Many freedom fighters besides the tales of bravery of Odisha have not got the due recognition that they truly deserve, he added.
"The heroes of western Odisha played a pivotal role during the freedom struggle. And hence, the history of western Odisha needs to go to national and then to international level," he opined.
Pradhan felicitated family members of a few freedom fighters of the region.
