Hirakud opens 6 more gates

PNS

The Hirakud Dam authorities on Monday opened six sluice gates in two phases to release excess floodwaters from the reservoir. Earlier in the morning, three gates were opened after the water level in the reservoir increased due to more rainfall. Later, another three gates were opened to discharge the floodwaters.

Currently, the floodwaters are being discharged from the reservoir through 10 sluice gates. On other hand, the Water Resources Department ruled out any possibility of floods in Mahanadi system following discharge of excess water from the Hirakud Dam. The water level at the Mundali barrage in Cuttack district now is stable.
