Vigilance sleuths on Friday conducted simultaneous searches at residences and office of the Ganjam district’s Hinjilikatu PHD Assistant Engineer Yajna Narayan Patra while acting on disproportionate assets complaint against him.

Vigilance officials conducted raids at Aska, Polasara, Bhahmapur and his Hinjilikatu residence. The sleuths detected immovable and movable assets worth Rs 70,67,951 in Patra’s name. He has spent Rs 37,50,000 towards educational expenditure of his two daughters in Hi-Tech Medical College, Bhubaneswar, an official release said.

In yet another case, Vigilance officers arrested Mayurbhanj district’s Bahalda block Assistant Engineer Pramod Kumar Sethi on the charge of demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 8,000 from Kalinga Behera of Soso village to prepare a bill against a road work.

In his complaint, Behera alleged that while he requested the Assistant Engineer to measure the road work done by him from Kajubana to Jahira and prepare a bill amounting to Rs 1.30 lakh and to prepare another estimate in respect of the road improvement work from laldunguri to lalbandha, he demanded illegal gratification of Rs 10,000. As he expressed his inability, Sethi reduced the amount to Rs 8,000.

Accordingly, the Vigilance sleuths laid a trap and caught Sethi red-handed while taking Rs 8,000 from complainant Behera.  The investigation was in progress, said an official release.
