'Hike age limit to 42 yrs for Govt job'

PNS

The Samajwadi Party (SP) on Friday urged the Governor’s intervention for hiking the upper age limit for State Government jobs.

In a memorandum, the party sought direction from the Governor to the Government to increase the age limit for jobseekers up to 42 years and disengage all retired employees who have been reemployed in various departments.

SP State president Rabi Behera said more than 10.83 lakh youths in Odisha are registered unemployed and around 20 lakh rural youths don’t get employment opportunity. So, they migrate to far-off places in search of livelihoods.

There is an urgent need to accommodate the unemployed youths in jobs, but the age bar has come as a hindrance. While some of the States have increased the age limit for jobseekers, Odisha is yet to take a decision in this regard, said Behera.

He said that the States like Goa and Telangana have age limits at 45 and 44 years, respectively. Uttarakhand and Andhra Pradesh have increased the upper age limit to 42 years. In case of Rajasthan, UP, Harayana, Tripura, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh, the age limit is 40 years. The Odisha Government has also decided to appoint teachers through the State Selection Board (SSB) up to 42 years.  But in case of general Government jobs, the age limit is still 32 years, he pointed out.

Besides, Behera said the Odisha Government has reemployed more than 1,500 retired employees blocking the new employment opportunity for job aspirants.
