Health Secretary Arati Ahuja on Wednesday visited the dengue-affected areas of Cuttack city and took stock of the dengue situation in the district at a high-level meeting in the office of the Cuttack Collector. Ahuja also went to the SCB Medical College Hospital, where at least 72 dengue patients are now undergoing treatment in its exclusive dengue ward and three are in ICU in critical conditions. Expressing satisfaction over the treatment facilities available in the hospital, she said many dengue patients have already left the hospital after being fully cured. Meanwhile, the district administration has formed two teams comprising senior officials of the Industries and Health Departments and the Cuttack municipality to monitor the dengue situations in the industrial estates of Jagatpur and Khapuria, where the viral disease is creating panic. Industrial units have been asked to keep their premises clean and remove any stagnant water accumulated as these are the breeding grounds for the mosquitoes causing dengue. Sources said at least 500 industrial units in these two estates are now closed and the premises of these locked-up units are perfect breeding grounds of mosquitoes.
