The Head Clerk of the Dhenkanal Law College fell into trap of the Vigilance police on Tuesday for allegedly demanding bribe from a student to issue a Law degree certificate.

Vigilance officials apprehended Uttam Kumar Rout while he was demanding and accepting a bribe amount of Rs 8,500 from a former student of the college to provide him an LLB certificate.

Rout had earlier demanded Rs 10,000 from the student and later agreed to issue the certificate on payment of Rs 8,500. The Vigilance recovered the bribe amount from Rout after arresting him.

Later, a Vigilance team carried out a search in his residence at Dhenkanal to find out whether he had acquired properties which are disproportionate to his known sources of income.
