The Odisha High court on Thursday slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on Congress leader and former MlA Surendra Singhbhoi for failing to present his witnesses in the court on the day for examination in an election-related petition in which Singhbhoi has challenged the election of Titlagarh BJD MlA Tukuni Sahu.

Taking strong exceptions to unnecessary adjournments by the litigants in poll-related cases, Justice Biswanath Rath fined the Congress leader for the second time on Thursday. In November last year, Justice Rath had also slapped a fine of Rs 2,000 on the Congress leader as he had failed to submit the draft issue of his petition in time.
