The Odisha High Court would take up hearing on the bail applications of arrested mine owner Deepak Gupta and his family members on Thursday. Adjourning the hearing on Monday, Justice BK Nayak also extended the interim relief earlier granted to the family members of Gupta till the next hearing.

With this extension of relief, Vigilance officers are now restrained from arresting Gupta’s parents and wife till Thursday. Gupta’s father Haricharan, mother Kantadevi and wife Neetu are also booked by the Vigilance police for their alleged role in illegal mining and theft of iron ore to the tune of Rs 1,800 crore, thereby causing a loss to the State’s exchequer of around Rs 840 crore.

It may be noted that following the registration of cases against Gupta and all directors of his company, Deepak Steel and Power ltd, in July this year, he had gone underground before being arrested earlier this month and now under judicial custody.
