The Orissa High Court on Monday issued a notice to BJD Rajya Sabha member N Bhaskar Rao to appear before it on September 20 and file his written statements in connection with an election petition filed by Congress MlA Bhujabal Majhi challenging his election to the Upper House of Parliament.
Justice Biswanath Rath admitting the petition of Majhi, filed last month, gave the opportunity to the BJD leader to file his objections in an affidavit to the petition and posted the matter to be listed again on September 20.
The Congress MlA in his petition has urged the court to declare Rao’s election null and void for allegedly submitting a false affidavit along with his nomination papers. Majhi had claimed that despite having an income tax due of around Rs 41 lakh on the day he filed the nomination, Rao in his affidavit had shown that he had no such liabilities.
