Lawyers of the Orissa High Court, who are protesting against the decision of the Collegium to recommend names of outside law practitioners to be elevated as judges of the High Court, have now reiterated their decision to boycott the courts of the Chief Justice and other senior judges when the courts reopen after the summer vacation on June 17.
Briefing reporters here, High Court Bar Association president Gopal Krushna Mohanty said the lawyers had unanimously passed a resolution to this effect last month. Apart from boycotting the court of Chief Justice KS Jhaveri, the lawyers would also stay away from the courts of other Collegium members, Mohanty said.
“We have enough indications to suggest that the present Collegium of the High Court has recommended the name of an Odia law practitioner of the Supreme Court bar to be appointed as a judge of the Orissa High Court, who has only filed four cases in the High Court during the past five years, Mohanty alleged, terming the same to be contrary to the practice.
The High Court lawyers have been wearing black badges since May 17; and in the meantime, they have written letters to the Prime Minister and the Union Law Minister seeking their interventions into this unprecedented move of the High Court Collegium, informed Bar Association secretary Sanjay Kumar Das, adding that their next course of action would be chalked out on June 17.
