PNS

The members of the Odisha High Court Bar Association in a general body meeting here on Friday decided to temporarily call off their boycott of courts and resume work from Monday next.

The HC lawyers were on strike since September 26 in protest against the State Government’s recommendation to the Centre to set up permanent HC benches in southern and western Odisha. Terming the move as “contemptuous”, the lawyers went on strike virtually dividing the lawyers’ unity of the State.

However, after meeting the State Chief Justice on two occasions and in view of the sufferings caused to common people, the members of the bar decided to keep their strike in abeyance. In order to keep the powder dry and continue to oppose the move, the members decided to convene extraordinary general body meetingsevery month to review the situation.

“The present agitation will be kept in abeyance and the members of the bar will resume their court work from Monday,” informed HC Bar Association general secretary Janmejaya Katakia through a Press release.
