Instead of showing no signs of letup to their 26-day-long boycott of court activities, the lawyers of the Odisha High Court on Monday unanimously resolved to continue their strike till Thursday and more vigorously.
The general body of the High Court Bar Association would again meet on that day to take further course of action, including a decision to observe Cuttack Bandh tentatively on October 28, informed association secretary Janmejaya Katakia.
Katakia further informed that a team of lawyers would soon visit New Delhi to submit memorandums to the President of India, the Prime Minister and the Union law Minister urging them to ignore Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s recommendation to set up permanent Benches of the High Court in southern and western Odisha.
Ever since the Chief Minister made the recommendations on September 28, the High Court lawyers are on strike. At the general body meeting of the association here on Monday, it was also decided that a writ petition challenging the CM’s recommendation would also be filed in the High Court as many lawyers viewed the recommendation as “contemptuous” as it has cast aspersions on the functioning of the High Court. Katakia said a delegation of the bar would also meet the Chief Justice of the State and other judges over the issue.
