HC dismisses PIl on Cuttack Smart City

PNS

The Orissa High Court on Monday dismissed a public interest litigation (PIl) writ petition that had sought judicial intervention alleging that the millennium city of Cuttack was left out from the Central government-sponsored scheme of Smart City in a discriminatory manner.

A Division Bench headed by Chief Justice DH Waghela dismissed the PIl without any cost rejecting the contentions made by the petitioner.

President of High Court Bar Association Ashok Mohapatra, in his capacity as chairman of the Cuttack Smart City Action Committee, had filed the PIl claiming that Cuttack being the former capital of Odisha has been wrongfully debarred from getting the Smart City tag by an arbitrary evaluation of its potentialities. Mohapatra said a decision would be taken by the Action Committee after going through the judgement copy as to whether to file a review petition in the HC or a special leave petition (SlP) in the Supreme Court challenging the HC verdict.
