Baleswar MP Rabindra Kumar Jena on Friday moved a Private Member Bill in the Parliament for establishment of a Permanent Bench of the Orissa High court in Baleswar.
He said the pendency of cases in the Orissa High court is close to 1.70 lakh; and against the sanction strength of judges for 27, there are only17 of them. In view of the huge backlogs of the cases, people are deprived of justice in time.
Since people of north Baleswar have to travel to Cuttack for getting justice from the High Court, Baleswar is a most ideal location to have a Permanent Bench of the High Court, Jena argued in favour of his Bill. It would not only be time-saving but also cost-saving for the people of north Baleswar, he observed.
