HC bail to Mahima in murder case

PNS

The Orissa High Court on Tuesday granted conditional bail to industrialist Mahimananda Mishra, who was arrested by the Paradip police in December last year for his alleged role in a murder case in 2016.

The court, however, could not take up the other bail application of Mishra pertaining to his arrest in an attempt-to-murder case of 2013.

Allowing the bail application in the murder case for a bail bond of Rs five lakh each from two sureties, Justice DP Choudhury ordered that Mishra, chief of the Odisha Stevedores limited (OSl), shall not visit the port city of Paradip till the investigations in the case are over. Mishra was also advised to submit his passport with the IO in the case and appear before him whenever required.

But Mishra is unlikely to immediately step out of the Choudwar jail, where he is lodged as he has not yet been granted bail in the attempt-to-murder case.

Mishra was booked earlier this year in the 2013 bomb blast case of Press Chhak in Cuttack in which an advocate, allegedly having enmity with Mishra, was injured.

Although the hearing in the bail application of Mishra in the bomb blast case is over, the court could not deliver the verdict on the day as the court could not function on the day after lunch for the death of two advocates on record.
