HC asks Govt to hold 2nd test for vacant diploma seats

PNS

The Odisha High Court on Monday directed the State Director of Technical Education and Training (DTET) to conduct a second entrance test for filling up of the vacant diploma engineering seats in several private engineering schools in the State.

The High Court asked the DTET to complete the process of admissions as soon as possible after conducting the entrance test before August 15. Taking up a writ petition filed by the Odisha Private Engineering Schools’ Association (OPESA), a single-judge Bench of Justice BN Mohapatra gave the direction. The OPESA in its petition had stated that more than 60 per cent of the seats are lying vacant in all the private engineering schools of the State after the end of admissions made on the basis of the first entrance examination held in the month of May this year.

The OPESA’s petition had contended that the delay in publication of the State matriculation examination results has deprived many students of appearing at the first entrance test and, hence, the High Court should direct the Government to conduct another entrance examination.
